The July 15, Olive Crest trip was one of the best ever! We left the dock at 5:30, picked up a load of bait and headed south. The ocean was beautiful with no wind or bumpy sea to speak of. A local pod of dolphins paid us a visit on the way down. We dropped anchor and the excitement began. By evening’s end we had put 40 legal barracuda on board. Everyone on the trip took home fish; one young fisherwoman took home a whole barracuda to show off.
There were many hugs and “Thank You’s” from the group of delighted fishermen. Our rods and reels survived the trip, but needed lots of love afterwards. Thank You Charlie. Shirley, Tom, and Paula. You were a GREAT help. The crew from the Sum Fun deserves a big hug of appreciation. too!!
Our Junior trip also fished on the Sum Fun on a Friday afternoon. Again, the ocean was calm and the ride down to the fishing grounds was smooth. The pod of dolphins showed up to say “Hi” again. The fishing was not as exciting as our Olive Crest trip, but was fun. Many under sized bass were caught and released, with squeals of delight. One young fisherman claimed 16 fish caught. The galley was kept busy cooking hamburgers and making quesadas. One part of the trip that was fun to watch was on our last move up the coast. The young fishermen enjoyed being splashed by the bow waves and then hugging their chaperones. One young girl really enjoyed playing with the bait and carrying it around to show off to anyone who was there. The trip was filled with lots of good natured fun squeals of delight from catching fish; some for the first time and there were smiles on adults faces watching their kids bring fish on board.
Again, a special “Thank You” to the Sum Fun’s crew, plus to Paula, Charlie, Tom, for all the help to provide a wonderful day on the water!
