We left Dana Harbor on the Sum Fun at noon on Friday, July 19. The weather was sunny and a light breeze was blowing; wonderful day to be on the water. We headed north towards Laguna Beach. What a smooth trip. We had a great group of fishermen and women.We enjoyed each other through out the trip. We had our annual cupcake eating to celebrate Paula’s Birthday. This year’s song was led by a real singer, Val, who started us out on the correct key. During the trip several belly laughs were experienced during our time in the galley. We left the dock aboard the Sum Fun from Dana Marina and headed out on our first fishing trip for Kids in 2024. The seas were calm and the wind was down. We headed north and began fishing of the some under ground rocks. The first fish caught was a Calico Bass landed by Max using hook-up bait. Several more fish were caught at that location, but fishing was slow. Calls were made out to all of the FIB’ers to bring their 20-30 and 40-50lb bait setups and be at the landing earlier than our scheduled departure of 9pm. 22 of the FIB’ers began boarding a little before 6pm. Captain Jim gave his speech and Rick Chalmers prayed us in. Once everyone boarded, Captain Jim “Rambo” (I still need to ask where he got the name Rambo) said we were heading south into Mexico.
